Nairobi dinner and Kisumu celebration
Nyanam marked International Widows Day 2023 with two linked gatherings: a celebration dinner in Nairobi on June 22 and a larger widow-centered gathering in Kisumu on June 23.

Why this year mattered
The 2023 campaign positioned the year as a chance to introduce new friends to Nyanam, celebrate widows who embody resilience and strength, and raise support for the work ahead.

01
The Nairobi dinner was positioned as Nyanam's first celebration dinner for widows on the eve of International Widows Day.
Its stated purpose was threefold: introduce guests to the work of Nyanam, celebrate remarkable widows who embody resilience and strength, and raise funds to extend support to more widows.
The page invited both individual guests and corporate sponsors, making the event a relationship-building moment rather than a simple fundraiser.

02
Alongside the Nairobi dinner, Nyanam planned a one-day celebration in Kisumu for more than 500 widows.
The campaign notes that the Kisumu celebration was implemented with the Kisumu County Department of Social Development and the Ministry of Health, Kisumu West sub-County, which brought preventative reproductive health services to widows in attendance.
The Kisumu event was funded by Women in the Window International and Imago Dei Fund, reinforcing the role of long-term partners in sustaining the annual celebration.
03
The archive page later records that 600 widows were celebrated on June 23, 2023, and that 39 widows were awarded certificates of recognition and Nyanam-branded mugs for their leadership and growth.
The same summary records that all widows received 2 kilograms of sugar and branded shopping bags, keeping practical support tied to public recognition.
That balance of honor, material care, and public witness is what makes the 2023 campaign feel distinct in the wider archive.

Support the day
The 2023 campaign paired the Nairobi dinner invitation with company sponsorship packages for supporters who wanted to fund the work beyond a single seat at the event.
