Position Title: Holistic Wellbeing Officer

Reports to: Holistic Wellbeing Coordinator

Location: Kisumu, with frequent field work in Kisumu and Siaya

Position Type: Full Time

Overall Purpose: The Holistic Wellbeing Officer supports the overall wellbeing of widows by implementing programs and activities that address their spiritual, mental, emotional, psychological, nutritional, and physical needs, while providing counselling, mobilisation, and timely reporting to the Coordinator.

Key Deliverables

  • Build relationships with and communicate program information to widows, community leaders, and facilitators.

  • Provide spiritual counselling, pastoral care, and deliver therapy sessions. Ensure program activities are implemented effectively and respectfully.

  • Collect data, maintain records, and submit reports on program activities and outcomes.

  • Adhere to ethical guidelines, safeguarding policies, and maintain confidentiality.

  • Participate in devotions and integrate religious principles into support services.

Qualification Requirements

  • Education: Certification or training in counselling, trauma-informed care, or community health work.

  • Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in delivering training, support supervision, group conflict management, counselling, psychosocial support, or community health programs, preferably with vulnerable populations.

Competencies

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and practices;

  • Knowledge of basic nutrition principles and health promotion strategies

  • Excellent communication skills to articulate Nyanam’s vision to donors, partners, and the community

  • Maintaining high ethical standards and confidentiality in handling financial information.

  • A proactive and independent work ethic: You are a self-starter, able to prioritise, manage multiple assignments, and take initiative.

YOUTH COORDINATOR

Department: Programs

Reports to: Head of Programs and Operations

Job Purpose

Responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of comprehensive programs aimed at improving educational outcomes and creating sustainable opportunities for widows’ children and youth in line with the organization's strategic plan. This role will involve direct engagement with youth, building partnerships, and ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality youth-focused initiatives.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Program Design

• Develop and implement a comprehensive youth program strategy aligned with the organisation's strategic objectives, focusing on education, skills development, livelihoods, and well-being.

• Design and deliver age-appropriate and impactful youth programs, including workshops, training sessions, mentorship initiatives, and extracurricular activities.

• Stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends in youth development and integrate relevant approaches into program design.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with youth Widows, understanding their needs, challenges, and aspirations.

• Build and maintain partnerships with schools, community organisations, vocational training centres, and potential employers to create opportunities for youth.

• Collaborate with the Communications team to promote youth program activities and successes.

Program Implementation and Coordination

• Coordinate and oversee the work of any youth program volunteers or mentors.

• Ensure the safeguarding and well-being of all youth participating in organisational programs.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of youth programs, collecting data, analysing results, and making recommendations for improvement.

• Prepare regular reports on youth program activities, progress, and impact on internal and external stakeholders.

Financial and Resource Management

• Develop and manage the youth program budget to ensure efficient and effective utilisation of resources. • Mobilise resources to grow the scholarship fund at Nyanam

Bible-Based and Organisational Culture

• Prepare for and lead devotions according to the timetable.

Education and Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in similar roles/ in a similar organisation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITY 

The Finance Specialist will be responsible for strategic financial management, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic objectives and promoting financial sustainability. This role involves leading financial planning, budgeting, reporting, ensuring compliance, and providing financial insights to support decision-making and organizational growth. This position is critical to the finance department of the organization. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong financial systems (policies, procedures, structures, and templates) that ensure accurate record-keeping and efficient financial operations 

  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive financial reports for internal (management, board) and external (donors, regulatory bodies) stakeholders, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legal requirements. 

  • Establish, implement, and continuously monitor a robust system of internal controls to safeguard organizational assets, mitigate financial risks, and prevent fraud. 

  • Lead the development and management of organizational budgets, provide accurate financial forecasts, and ensure alignment of financial planning with strategic goals. 

  • Develop and implement financial strategies to enhance the organization's sustainability, including exploring income-generating activities and supporting resource mobilization efforts. 

  • Monitor and manage the organization's cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for operations and provide operational support to program managers on expenditure management. 

  • Accurate and timely processing of monthly payroll, including adjustments, salary payments, and statutory deductions. 

  • Align all expenditures with approved budgets, proactively monitor budget commitments, and advise program managers on financial performance and potential overspending. 

  • Oversee the maintenance of the fixed asset register and ensure compliance with government taxation regulations. 

  • Manage balance sheets and profit and loss statements, ensuring accurate reconciliation of accounts payable and receivable, and conduct year-end account reconciliations. 

  • Prepare and submit annual financial returns to the NGO board and other regulatory bodies, including the annual financial report. 

  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring timely provision of accurate information and the implementation of audit recommendations. 

  • Contribute to awareness of grant regulations and ensure financial compliance with donor requirements. 

  • Supervise, mentor, and build the capacity of junior finance staff, ensuring effective allocation of work. 

  • Collaborate with operations and program teams to align financial resources with organizational goals. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 
Education: A master's degree finance/management, and a qualified accountant, CPA-K/ACCA. Additional technical skills in human resource management are added advantage. 

Leadership Experience: At least 5-7 years of finance senior management experience, with 2 years of proven experience preferably in a nonprofit, NGO, or community development context. Experience in overseeing financing and funding implementation and team development is essential. 

 COMPETENCIES 

  • Strong expertise in accounting principles, financial reporting, and budget management, including the preparation of financial statements and forecasts, as well as variance analysis.  

  • Skilled in analyzing financial data to support strategic decision-making, with a solid grasp of internal control systems and audit processes.  

  • Proficient in QuickBooks and Excel, with potential knowledge of Power BI for data analysis.  

  • Brings a strategic understanding of how finance aligns with organizational goals.  

  • Possesses excellent communication skills for engaging donors and stakeholders, upholds high ethical standards and confidentiality, and exhibits strong leadership in developing teams.

PROJECT COORDINATOR - WASHMI PROJECT

Position Title: Project Coordinator 

Reports to: Monitoring & Evaluation Officer 

Location: Kisumu, with frequent fieldwork in Kisumu and Siaya  

Position Type: Full Time 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITY 
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for leading the design, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Project within the Nyanam and the Transformation Phase of Nyanam’s programs. He /She will develop systematic project monitoring, regular reviews, preparation of donor reports, capturing learnings, and be able to close the project and implement exit plans. Moreover, he/she will ensure that program deliverables are achieved promptly and consistently with the activity work plan, and best practices and key lessons learned are captured and documented.   
 

Specific duties: 

Project management   

  • Planning, leading, and implementing Nyanam’s WASH and transformation phase project activities according to agreed work plans, milestones, and performance targets within the specified time frame. 

  • Review existing WASH and transformation phase project plans and provide recommendations for enhancements to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation of the WASH and transformation phase projects. 

  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly and quarterly reporting of activities according to the donor and other applicable timeframes. 

  • Continuously monitor and supervise the organization's WASH project activities, overseeing the design, execution, and evaluation of progress through outputs and impacts using both quantitative and qualitative data. 

  • Develop and conduct training sessions on WASH and transformation phase project activities for project beneficiaries. 

  • In liaison with M&E Officer, support baseline and endline data collection for WASH-related activities.  

  • Organize project inception and closure workshop plans and report of the project capturing learnings and recommendations. 

  • Ensure attendance at all donor-related training and capacity development workshops. 

  • Liaise with the Procurement team in the purchase of all related WASH project resources 

  • Support in the development of widow–led enterprises during the transformation phase of our program. 

Communication 

  • Document WASH projects and widow–led income enterprises’ impact through widows' stories. 

  • Ensure timely and effective communication with the donor 

  • Lead partnership communication and coordination within the project 

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director and/ or Supervisor 

Additional responsibilities 

  • Liaise and coordinate with the Health department lead in implementing WASH education-related activities. 

  • Liaise and Coordinate with the Livelihoods department lead in effective multistorey garden irrigation, monitoring, and evaluation 

Qualifications requirements: 
 Education: Master's level university degree in Business Administration, Project Management, OR Developmental Studies with at least 3 years of field experience. Organizational Business skills and Knowledge will be an added advantage.  

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in WASH infrastructure projects (tender procedure, design, planning, implementation, budgeting, reporting, evaluation, and monitoring) and a good understanding of current WASH sector trends and indicators. 

  • Experience in developing WASH strategy, clear and realistic activity planning; overseeing implementation, tracking the progress, and reporting against the agreed indicators. 

  • Proven experience in project cycle management 

  •  A project management background with the ability to implement projects within budget and time frame. 

  •  Knowledge and understanding of WASH best practices, monitoring, and evaluation systems, and procedures. 

  • Strong technical and programmatic skills in women-led income-generating enterprises preferably in Small & Medium Enterprises  

  • Experience with setup or managing SACCO is an added value

Position Title: Justice Coordinator 

Reports to: Operations Officer 

Location: Kisumu, with frequent field work in Kisumu and Siaya 

Position Type: Full-time (may include evenings or weekends) 

 

Position brief 

Justice Coordinator serves as a key member of the team and works in close collaboration with the other team members to implement and sustain ongoing programming in the Justice Program. The coordinator will work to ensure the day-to-day work in Justice Department is in line with Nyanam’s mission and supportive of our partners and community members. The goal of Nyanam’s Justice Program is to use a restorative approach to protect the widows’ land security, improve their housing security, and protect the human rights of widows’ and of their children. We are looking for a passionate, organized and people-oriented individual to join our team as the Justice Coordinator to support access to justice for our community of about 800 widows. 

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES  

Project management  

  • Function as the key link between widows and all partners in the Department 

  • Work closely with the team to update workplan for the Justice Department 

  • Create and manage activity budgets for the department 

  • Monitor and evaluate department’s progress and goals 

  • Communicate and coordinate with project partners including widows, paralegals and probono lawyers 

Community education on land laws and rights  

  • Assist with development of curriculum focused on justice for widows and their children 

  • Review and offer feedback on Nyanam’s property rights curriculum 

  • Translate existing curriculum from English to Dholuo 

  • Organize and ensure successful implementation of training activities for the department 

  • Ensure multiplication of property rights training in all the leadership circles 

  • Take part in Nyanam planned training of widows and community engagements on property rights 

  • Train widows on property rights and as paralegals, with Probono lawyers 

  • Ensure appropriate partners and local authorities are invited to trainings and events appropriately 

  • Plan and conduct community engagement with local administrators. 

Conflict resolution 

  • Review each widow’s case and with the help of Probono lawyers recommend the best applicable conflict resolution mechanism i.e arbitration, mediation or litigation 

  • Assist Nyanam counsellors in linking with widows that need mediation 

  • Coordinate with local authorities and Probono lawyers to ensure arbitration services are offered in a timely and safe manner 

Legal aid support 

  • Ensure effective, confidential, clear and timely recording of Nyanam widows' land cases 

  • Track all land cases filed in court and cases outcome. 

  • Collect, review and ensure complete case files for all Nyanam widow with land cases for filing and processing in courts 

  • Organize and ensure implementation of legal clinics for widows with property cases 

Housing security 

  • Collect data on housing challenges widows face in all the leadership circles issues 

  • Work with the communications lead to document widows’ housing stories  

  • Liase with and support housing security project partners during project implementation 

  • Monitor building of houses for selected widows in Siaya and Kisumu Counties to ensure equity and adherence to project plans 

Communication  

  • Ensure timely communication between probono lawyers and widows on all land cases ensuring widows submit needed documents for support.  

  • Document projects impact through widows' stories 

  • Publish a story documentary on a Nyanam widow’s journey to land ownership by end of 2023. 

Policy advocacy 

  • Review policy documents on laws and rights that relate to widows and their children. 

  • Write a report in the situation of the current laws affecting widows positively and negatively 

  • Take part in advocacy forums organised by Nyanam and partner organizations and use such avenues to advocate for widows' rights. 

  • Liasing with Executive Director, conduct desk research on land inheritance policies in Africa 

Fundraising and other responsibilities 

  • Join Nyanam staff in fundraising and proposal writing 

  • Assist with other responsibilities as may be assigned 

  • Be an active and supportive team member 

Qualification 

  • Diploma in law from any recognised institution or 2-5 years of relevant work experience supporting legal programs in Kenya 

  • Proven success in providing logistic support, project management and project oversight.  

  • Cultural competency in Luo culture 

  • Fluent in Dholuo and English.  

Prior experience working with widows' communities is an advantage
